Heuvelton Business Owner and NCSB Customer Proud to Live in the North Country

North Country Savings Bank (NCSB) customer Nick Montroy of Heuvelton, N.Y. enjoys living and working in the North Country. Montroy, owner of Montroy Contracting LLC, has resided in the North Country for most of his life and has chosen to stay because he values his time with nearby family and friends.

"The North Country is a great place to raise a family," Montroy said. "It's an easy-going, relaxed community where everyone gets along and supports each other. Any local projects I have go smoothly — the community likes seeing local people doing the work."

Montroy started Montroy Contracting LLC in 2015 part-time while working in Potsdam. In 2018, Montroy focused his efforts solely on running the business. Montroy began with two employees and now has between 30 and 35 year-round. Some of the services Montroy and his team provide are utility contracting, fiber optics, excavation, and commercial snowplowing.

"We have a really good group of employees," Montroy said. "They are all incredibly versatile — as the jobs and seasons change, we shift so we are able to retain employees throughout the year. We do a lot of safety training to make sure we are all doing our jobs correctly and safely."

Montroy, who has been an NCSB customer since he opened his first checking account when he was 16 years old, utilizes the bank for his business. Montroy decided to bank with NCSB for his business needs after seeing his parents have success with the bank while running their own business in years prior. The main services Montroy uses are wire transfers and online bill pay.

"NCSB has always been good to me — they know who I am when I walk in and when I call," Montroy said. "No matter what I need to do, they make it a seamless process and are always very on top of things."

In addition to Montroy Contracting LLC, Montroy owns and rents apartments in Heuvelton, and recently purchased Maple City Auto in Ogdensburg with a partner, where they are planning to open their own auto repair shop. Montroy also purchased the former McCadam Cheese building and converted it into his office.

"I like being able to support my community," Montroy said. "The village was very happy when I purchased the building and renovated it because it helped keep the village looking clean."

When Montroy is not working, he spends time outside hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, or snowmobiling in the winter months. Montroy's favorite local spot to grab a bite to eat is L.E.A.'s Diner in Heuvelton, which he frequents.

"I'm proud to be from the North Country," Montroy said. "It's nice being able to work on jobs, go to the bank, or stop by a restaurant and have people know you by name."
