How to Make Your Summer Finances Carefree

Summer is finally here! In the North Country, we all know that this season can be short-lived. So while you’re out enjoying the warm weather — hiking to mountaintops, swimming, or boating — the last thing you want to worry about is your personal finances, right?

Right. And we’re here to help make them as carefree as possible this summer. Here are a few suggestions to do just that:

  • Setup Automatic Bill Payments — Between your next weekend getaway to the beach, dropping the kids off at summer camp or going out on the lake for the day, you don’t want to worry about whether or not that bill was sent. One thing that can ease your worries? Automatic bill payments. If you haven’t signed up for them, consider doing so to take one thing off of your plate this summer.
  • Reevaluate Your Expenses — Forgo the Netflix sessions and get outside to enjoy the best of summer! If there are subscription services that you want to put on hold or even eliminate from your monthly budget for the season, now is the time to do so – because there is so much to do in the summertime. Use the funds for a special summer experience with friends and family instead!
  • Eliminate Financial Clutter — Rainy day got you down after a month of fun in the sun? Make it a productive one and rid yourself of all of your financial paperwork and clutter that’s added up over the past several months. Get rid of the non-essentials and be sure to file important paperwork that you’ll need to keep for your records down the road.
  • Budget — Budgeting is the ultimate key to keeping your personal finances in a healthy state. Before summer really gets going, outline a budget for yourself to make sure you’re not having too much fun. Work in those expenses for summer vacation, sign up for a summer Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share to save on groceries, and strive to stay on top of other expenses.

Summer is a time to kick back, relax and enjoy the warm weather to the fullest. Take a few easy steps to eliminate financial worry from your summer and you’ll be able to do all of that and more.
