North Country Savings Bank Announces New Potsdam Branch Construction Project

POTSDAM, N.Y. — North Country Savings Bank has announced plans for a complete redevelopment of its Potsdam branch, marking a major investment in the future of banking in the North Country and reaffirming the Bank's long-standing commitment to the Potsdam community.

The project, which has received final approval from both the Bank's Board of Trustees and the Village of Potsdam, will replace the existing branch with a newly constructed facility designed around a modern, customer-focused banking experience.

"As a mutual institution, our focus has always been on serving the evolving needs of our customers and communities," said R. Brian Coakley, President and CEO of North Country Savings Bank. "This new branch represents an investment not only in our facilities, but in the future of relationship banking. We are creating a space that reflects how people want to bank today while preserving the personal service that has defined North Country Savings Bank for generations."

The new facility will incorporate a more open and welcoming design that removes traditional barriers between customers and staff. The goal is to create an environment that strengthens relationships, provides greater convenience and accessibility, and cuts down on wait times.

The redesigned branch will feature modern technology, flexible meeting spaces, and an enhanced customer experience that supports both personal and business banking needs. The project reflects the Bank's ongoing commitment to investing in local communities and adapting to changing customer expectations.

The project will begin with the demolition of the Cubley House at 33 Main St. on June 9. To ensure uninterrupted service, customers will continue banking at the current location through early July before operations move to a temporary branch facility located on the property. Once the transition is complete, demolition of the existing branch building will begin, paving the way for construction of a new, modern facility designed to enhance the customer experience. The entire project is expected to be completed next year, and customers can expect continued access to North Country Savings Bank services throughout the process.

"For more than a century, Potsdam has been an important part of North Country Savings Bank’s story," said Andrew McMahon, Chair of NCSB’s Board of Trustees. "This investment demonstrates the bank’s confidence in the future of the community and its commitment to providing an exceptional banking experience for generations to come."

Additional project updates and information regarding the temporary branch location will be shared as construction progresses.

The improvements come on the heels of North Country Savings Bank being named one of the Best Regional Banks in the US by Newsweek in 2026.
